Mike's Story -
After YEARS of struggling with obesity, years of bouncing between 200 and over 300 pounds, and years of feeling terrible, I FINALLY put being overweight behind me… WAY behind me!! Being overweight (OBESE!) is painful, embarrassing, and a terrible harbinger of ill health and an early death. Although I won't charge you for what I received for free from my hero, Dr. John McDougall, there are speaking engagements and seminars available for a modest fee. You can find more information about those here. For most of you,  EVERYTHING you need to know is right here on this web site. There is no need to buy powders, pills, meals in a box or expensive subscriptions to ‘diet clubs’.

Before we begin, I’d like to STRONGLY advise you to check with your doctor before beginning this, or any, diet. (BTW:  this is NOT a diet!  It is a whole new way of living!)  I have been
certified (Cornell University) in plant-based nutrition, but I am not a doctor. There is no way for me to know your unique medical history or how this approach will affect you.  So, PLEASE check with your doctor first! You’ll be glad you did, especially if you have blood tests done as you should see dramatic improvements! I’d like to begin by sharing my personal story. In October 2009, I was honored by Dr. McDougall as a “Star McDougaller”.  Here is the story as I told it back then - Star McDougaller

Pam's Story -
Back in 1995, I was suddenly struck with pain all over my body after two tragic events: losing my son and, a year later, a car accident resulting in bulging discs in my back. I became depressed because the doctors could not figure out what was wrong.
After two years, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, affecting the  central nervous system and causing widespread traveling pain throughout my body! My medication, along with depression, was lead me down the path of obesity; this intensified the pain. Chronic fatigue accompanied many symptoms. One day I suddenly got a pinched nerve in my lower back, and that was excruciating! I couldn’t even sit up for 5 minutes! Walking was minimal when I suddenly realized I had to lose weight to help myself. I ran into Mike on my way home from taking care of my ailing mother and said “I have to lose weight” to him. This is the beginning of my road back to health and a lot less pain. 7 months later I had lost nearly 70 pounds and was walking a couple of  miles every day!

If you seriously follow our website’s instructions, and maybe visit with drmcdougall.com, you’ll feel so much better about yourself, maybe even full of life again! I am off half of my meds, including blood pressure drugs. It’s a great feeling to be thin again, and still be able to eat to capacity!

As you explore this web site you'll find tips, links to books, DVD's, and many great sources of inspiration, health, and tools for YOUR success.  All you really need to know are the McDougall rules for lasting, sustainable, PERMANENT weight loss/maintenance and here they are:
1. Eliminate all animal foods, including dairy and eggs.
2. Eliminate all oils.
3. Eliminate all high-fat plant foods (including nuts, seeds, seed and nut spreads and tofu)
4. Eliminate all flour products, including breads, pastas, crackers
5.Eat whole grains and potatoes, including sweet potatoes
6. Eat legumes
7. Make green and yellow veggies one-third to one-half of your meal
8. Eat uncooked foods
9. Restrict fruits to no more than 2 raw fruits daily- avoid fruit juices, dried fruit and purees
10. Use simple sugars sparingly
SERIOUSLY!!!!  That's it!!! No powders, meals in a can, subscriptions to buy, or clubs to join!!!! Mike has lost 176 pounds....AND KEPT THEM OFF using the above rules! Our co-founder Pam has lost 60 pounds! They have both eliminated medications, drastically improved their well being and have been given new leases on life! Now, YOU can too!!!!!

Do not change your diet or start an intense exercise program if you are seriously ill or on medication unless you are under the care of a physician knowledgeable in nutrition and its effects on health. The McDougall Program uses a pure-vegetarian diet based around starchy vegetables with the addition of fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables. If you follow the diet strictly for more than three years, or if you are pregnant or nursing, then take a minimum of 5 micrograms (mcg) of supplemental vitamin B12 each day.
